IM LAUGHING SO HARD. MY FRIEND KNOWS THIS GIRL WHO HAS SOME OLD YEAR BOOK FROM MARSHALL H.S. AND SHE FOUND LEONARDO DICAPRIO AND THIS IS HIM FROM WHEN HE WAS A JUNIOR AND HE LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING 9 YEAR OLD
That’s because he was. Di Caprio was 10 when he graduated High School. A genius with an I.Q. of 144, Di Caprio completed college at 14 before beginning his acting career. He has two degrees, a Master of Engineering and a Sociology B.A.
Di Caprio also notably invented the antenna which makes modern cell phones work while he was still in school. The profits allowed him to try out acting, his ideal job and meet Gus Van Sant, who cast him in his first role. That lead to Titanic with James Cameron, for which Di Caprio doubled as a scholar on the physics of how the ship broke apart.
But none of that is squat compared to his work on the SD card. Still in college, he developed with two others the miniaturization technology that makes the SD Card so small, and for that work he was granted a Nobel Prize for Physics and Engineering in 1998, the same year he failed to earn an Oscar for his work in 1997’s Titanic.
Di Caprio mostly acts today, but in his spare time he’s working with Harvard’s Engineering department on a computer chip that will teach computers how to fix themselves from viruses and crashes, and even data erasure from solar flares or other magnetic phenomena. If successful, this too will not be eligible for an Oscar.
He’ll simply never get one. It’s sad really.
what next, skeletons studying quantum physics?

Even though I was warned in advance, Amanda as Danielle and Danielle as Amanda is still blowing my mind in a big way.
Pretty glad it’s fake halloween at Tumblr today.
Bitch is one of the most complicated insults in the English language. A bitch typically means a lewd, malicious, irritating woman (the comparison being to a dog in heat), but some women self-identify asbitches to indicate they are strong, assertive and independent. A son of a bitch is generally a despicable or otherwise hateful man, but can also mean a dear friend who has done something impressive or clever. If something is bitchin’ it is deemed to be particularly cool or in-style, but if a person is bitching they are complaining or whining. To be someone’s bitch is to be his or her servant or slave, to sit in the bitch seat is to sit in the under-sized seat in the middle of a car, to bitch slap is to strike with an open palm. Bitch might have originally meant a female dog, but now it can indicate anything from slapstick humor to scathing insult.

What Would Keep Ebola from Spreading in the US? Investing in Simple Research Years Ago.
There’s a thing you learn, when you’ve been writing about infectious diseases for a while: People love drama. They’re not so much with detail.
Drama is H5N1 avian flu killing half the people who contract it, and the enormous surge in whooping cough, and the sinister movement of almost-untreatable NDM-1 resistance from South Asia to the West.
Detail is the question of whether health care workers treating pandemic-flu patients should expect viral spread for 3 feet or 6 feet; and why immunity conferred by the current pertussis vaccine fades a few years earlier than expected; and how hospitals can encourage their janitors to clean rooms more thoroughly, when they’ve always treated them as a disposable part of the staff.
All of those details are crucial to controlling those diseases. All of them are also research questions. None of them, guaranteed, have gotten the attention or funding that would answer the questions in a way that equips us to counter the dramatic problems.
